WORK EXPERIENCE

Chuncheon University of Education – English Instructor

Responsible for creating the syllabus and course schedule, the curriculum and course book. In addition to developing written and oral exams, I assign students their grades.

Core classes are taught every semester however, in the fall I also teach conversation and writing classes. Below is a detailed outline of the main subjects taught.

English Practice 1- The course focuses on building on the theory class of the same name, this class gives students the opportunity to practice correct pronunciation with a native English speaker. In addition, students study various classroom English expressions, common English mistakes made by native Koreans, and common grammar mistakes.  Moreover, students must give presentations which demonstrate their ability to use classroom English, give effective directions in English, and teach elementary English concepts.

English Practice 2 – To learn and demonstrate certain methods of teaching English to Korean elementary students.  These methods include pre-teaching, eliciting, classroom management, and giving effective instructions.  Additionally, students learn activities to teach songs, games, and stories to elementary students through various authentic and non-authentic materials.

Work alongside Korean teachers both in planning and conducting lessons.

Solely responsible for organizing and executing after school programs and winter and summer English camps to further educate students on English culture such as food, games and music. 

Create workbooks, materials and cooperative learning projects based on students’ developmental age and interests.

Teach Kindergarten to 6th grade.

Use a range of interactive teaching methods such as singing and storytelling to enhance learning.

Devise and lead workshops for parents to provide them with strategies and resources to help their children’s English studies at home.

Teach speaking, reading, writing and conversation English to Hwacheon Education officers.

Led activities involving drama, art and music. Directed a production called Bridge the Gap.

OTHER SKILLS

Fluent in French and understand Swahili, Lingala and Tshiluba.

Enrolled in a Korean beginner’s class in Chuncheon.

INTEREST

At present I attend and am actively involved in Harvest Time International Church in Chuncheon.

I am an avid thespian and have performed in numerous plays for the Bristol Potter’s House Church and the Bristol Old Vic Young Company. I was recently in a King Lear production by the Seoul Shakespeare Company.

I enjoy travelling and so far, have visited multiple countries in South East Asia as well as Europe. Travelling helps me to broaden my cultural knowledge and awareness.

I also love to dance and cook.
